Thou gh he spent m ost of his time making fi lms in the US, he occas ionally return ed to his nativ e Engla nd for a produc tion and this w as his first Br itish fi lm since FREN CH WITHOU T TEARS in 1 939. Director Allen was also an English man who cho se to work i n the U S, this b eing his first d irectorial effort in h is homeland.
