Regarding SPAM e-mails being sent due to unauthorized access

?The email accounts and passwords of two users of Ehime University’s email service were illegally used from outside the university, resulting in around 35,000 SPAM emails from these accounts between 1:00 a.m. on Friday, November 27, 2020 and around 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2020.
?We would like to express our deepest apologies to those who received SPAM e-mails from Ehime University accounts and have felt troubled.
?The probable cause is the theft of the email accounts and passwords of two users, from the registered email addresses and encrypted passwords that were confirmed to have been leaked from an event management company’s service when the service operator received unauthorized access by a third party. There were traces of an attack on our university system from the attacker, but there was no damage to our system.

?The university takes this situation very seriously and will try to prevent this from happening again by ensuring the proper management of the e-mail service and implementing necessary countermeasures.

At this point, no secondary damage related to this incident has been reported. In addition, the results of the investigation do not indicate that any confidential information, such as personal information has been leaked.
