? Professor Dr. Paulo Mateus Uache, Academic Director of the Higher Institute of International Relations in Mozambique, visited Ehime University and delivered a lecture on December 5. Prof. Uache, who has been involved in diplomat training in Mozambique, was invited to Japan by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
? A seminar titled “Mozambique: What are the Opportunities and Challenges?” was held on the Johoku Campus. In his lecture, Prof. Uache emphasized Mozambique’s strengths and challenges in its political economy from the perspective of geography. In particular, he mentioned that Mozambique is actively accepting foreign investment, has abundant natural resources, and also has an advantage in trading because it is a coastal country. Thus, he added that further developing the relationship between our two countries can bring about large benefits.
? Vice President Masatoshi Sugimori, Director of the Institute for International Relations, stated, in his opening remarks at the welcome party following by the seminar, that Ehime University wants to further strengthen cooperation with Mozambique over the next 10 years on the basis of our past 10-year’s solid friendship.
? The next day, Prof. Uache visited laboratories where Mozambican students have been engaged in research at the Graduate School of Agriculture, and the Ehime University Senior High School to talk with a high school student who visited Mozambique this year in the “TOBITATE” program, supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan.
