? The 17th Japanese Speech Contest for International Students in Ehime 2020 was held at the Honmachi Hall of Nankai Broadcasting Co., Ltd., on Sunday, December 20. This speech contest was open to international students enrolled in high schools and universities in Ehime Prefecture.
? This year, 12 international students from 8 countries and regions studying at universities, junior colleges, technical colleges, high schools, and other vocational schools in Ehime participated in the contest (6 students from our university and Ehime University Senior High School).
? The contest was broadcast live on Nankai Radio and Ehime CATV, and also streamed live on the website of Nankai Broadcasting Co., Ltd.
? The international students who participated in the contest gave speeches about their daily thoughts on the Japanese language and their dreams for the future, using humor in their speeches. The level of the speeches made at the contest has become higher and higher every year. Although the judging was very difficult, 4 contestants from Ehime University and our senior high school won awards.
? The contest was held without an audience due to prevention measures against COVID-19, but it was a memorable day for the contestants as well as the audience who cheered them on through the screen, and the management staff.
? Ehime University will continue to promote not only Japanese language education and other support for international students, but also initiatives for the internationalization of the campus in cooperation with the local community.
