? In commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day, PPI-Ehime, the Indonesian Student Union, held “Indonesian Festival 2017” on Johoku Campus on August 19th 2017, for the purpose of promoting exchanges by introducing Indonesian culture to local citizens. The festival was sponsored by the Ehime Indonesian Friendship Association and the Institute for International Relations of Ehime University.
? Even though it was a summer hot day, we had a lot of participants from in and out of the university at the gorgeously decorated venue by Indonesian students in red and white colors from the Indonesian national flag. Before lunch time, there were long waiting lines for not only Indonesian traditional foods that are familiar to the Japanese like “mi goreng” but unique kinds of Indonesian local cuisine that can rarely be enjoyed in Japan.
? From beginning to end, a lot of interesting games for adults and children which are traditionally played on Indonesian’s Independence Day were introduced one after another. Participants were especially excited to see Tarik Tambang (tag of war) and Bakiak (centipede race) going on, which were played a bit differently from in a Japanese manner, sending cheers to both Indonesian and Japanese players.
