“Indonesian Festival 2016” was held on Johoku Campus on August 20th, 2016, for the purpose of introducing Indonesian culture to people from in and out of the university. This event was organized by PPI-EHIME, the Indonesian Student Union, and sponsored by the Official Embassy of Republic of Indonesia in Tokyo (KBRI Tokyo), the Ehime Indonesian Friendship Association (EIFA) and the Institute for International Relations of Ehime University.
The opening ceremony began with the performance of a fascinating traditional Indonesian dance and the singing of the Indonesian national anthem “Indonesian Raya”, followed by guest speeches.
The theme of this festival was “Food and Culture”. Before luch time,?a lot of participants were waiting in line for colorful Indonesian dishes at the food booths. Marlisa Ayu Trisia, Chairperson of the festival, said, “There are various kinds of delicious foods other than Nasi Goreng. I’m very glad that everybody here has a chance to try new tastes and enjoy them.”
In addition, several unique games which are traditionally enjoyed on Indonesia’s Independence Day were provided for adults and children. Participants were especially excited to watch Makan Kerupuku (cracker-eating race) and Ball-dance, sending cheers to both Indonesian and Japanese players.
