Ehime University concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic exchange with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN: Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional), Republic of Indonesia, on May 26, 2023, to promote academic exchange and cooperation.
BRIN was established in 2021 by merging four former national research institutes (the Indonesian Institute for Sciences (LIPI), the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN), and the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN)) with the Ministry of Research and Technology (RISTEK-BRIN). Among these institutions, the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences had an MoU with BPPT since 2008, and the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences had an MoU with the Research Institute of Chemistry of LIPI since 2014 for joint research and educational exchange.
On the occasion of the launch of a full-scale joint research project in the field of food science by Professor Sugahara Takuya of the Graduate School of Agriculture, Ehime University dissolved two interdepartmental MoUs and concluded an MoU with BRIN. Indonesia is one of Ehime University’s international strategic base countries and has accepted and conferred degrees to more than 400 Indonesian people so far. There are nearly 30 alumni of Ehime University working at BRIN as executives or researchers.
Through this MoU, Ehime University will deepen exchanges with the BRIN and will further promote joint research in Indonesia. In addition, since there are many alumni at BRIN, we will strengthen follow-up with these former international students.
