Support for International Students
We are making every effort to establish educational courses that meet the diverse needs of international students and to provide a comfortable environment in which they can concentrate on their studies.
Support is also provided in languages other than Japanese, with counseling provided in English, information provided in English and Chinese at the Comprehensive Health Center, and internal documents related to international students provided in English and Chinese.
Support System for International Students
Japanese Language Education Program
We encourage all international students to study Japanese and provide comprehensive Japanese language education. Courses offered by the Institute for International Relations are offered at the Johoku Campus and online, and include regular, survival, and preparatory courses. Some courses are open to visiting scholars and spouses if space is available.
Global Human Resource Development Program for Ehime’s Universities and Businesses
While the birthrate in Ehime Prefecture is declining, the number of companies expanding overseas is increasing, and with it, the need for “high-level foreign human resources” is rising. In this program, Ehime University, the Ehime Prefectural Ministry of Economy and Labor, and local economic organizations, companies, and private organizations collaborate to form an “All Ehime” consortium to attract outstanding international students from around the world to Ehime Prefecture, and provide support for Japanese language study in an academic environment, classes combining career education and internships, and individual counseling, The consortium will provide support for Japanese language study, classes combining career education and internships, and individual counseling to promote employment at companies in Ehime and other parts of Japan. In particular, this program is challenging itself to promote learning in a diversity environment with a diverse membership, where not only international students but also Japanese students who want to work in a global workplace can study together, and employees of local companies, such as “support cooperating companies” that support the program, participate as mentors. The University has been promoting learning in a diversity environment by a diverse group of students.
Ehime University has been supporting international students for a long time to find employment in Japan, starting in 2007 as part of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s “Asian Human Resources Fund Initiative” and in 2017 became the only school in Chugoku and Shikoku to be selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Foreign Student Employment Promotion Program”. In 2023, the program was adopted for the second time by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a program to promote employment of foreign students, and will continue to be implemented as a MEXT program until March 2026.
