*The new system will screen applicants based on household standards (income and asset standards) and academic standards.
*Tuition fee waiver by Ehime University is subject to review based on the current family budget and academic standards within the limits of the budget, so there is no guarantee that the full amount will be waived.
Undergraduate Students
As of April 2020, undergraduate students are transitioning to the new system of higher education study support (Japan Student Services Organization scholarship + tuition reduction/exemption).
Tuition waivers under the new higher education study support system
If you apply for and are accepted for the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarship, your tuition will be reduced or exempted according to your aid category. You are required to submit an application for continuation of tuition fee reduction (Form A2) twice a year. If you do not submit the application for continuation of tuition fee reduction within the required period, you will not be approved for the tuition fee reduction.
Scheduled application period
- Continuation (Form A2): Second half of the year / August to the end of September, first half of the following year / January to the end of March
- New (Form A1): Second semester/early September, first semester of the following year/beginning of March-April
- Sudden change in household finances: as needed (within 3 months of the occurrence of the event)
Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarship recipients (currently receiving or on leave of absence) (Continuation Application “A Form 2”)
◆New applicants for Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarship (Form A1)
Those who wish to apply for a new scholarship must submit the application form for tuition fee reduction (Form A1) by the date specified by the university, and then complete the application procedures for the Japan Student Services Organization “Grant” Scholarship.
◆ those who apply for the adoption of sudden change in household finances
In the event of a sudden change in family finances, applications may be made at any time throughout the year. As a general rule, applications must be made within three months of the occurrence of the event.
Tuition Exemption by Ehime University
With the implementation of the new higher education study support system, transitional support will be provided to undergraduate students who were eligible for support under the previous tuition fee waiver system (students enrolled before the 2019 academic year), but who will no longer be eligible under the new system or for whom the amount of support will decrease. Undergraduate students who have applied for the new system and undergraduate students who are not eligible for the new system but have not applied for the new system and wish to apply for tuition fee waiver transitional assistance should refer to the application instructions below and make sure to apply for this transitional assistance. Applications submitted after the application period will not be accepted, so please submit your application within the application period.
*Transitional assistance (for students enrolling before FY2019), death of a financial burden bearer, disasters such as windstorms and floods, and special reasons (large-scale disasters and new coronas) are eligible.
*Since the screening criteria for the new system are different from those for the transitional measures, it does not necessarily mean that those who did not receive full support under the new system will be eligible for the transitional measures.
*If you apply only for the new system and do not apply for transitional measures this time, you will not be eligible for transitional measures support. If you are not eligible for support under the new system as a result of the screening process, you will not receive tuition fee waiver, so please be sure to apply for transitional measures if you wish to receive transitional measures support. If the application is not submitted by the deadline, it will be assumed that there is no request for transitional measures support.
*Even if you are eligible for transitional assistance, you are not allowed to apply only for the transitional assistance if you meet the application requirements for the new system. Please be sure to apply for the scholarship and tuition waiver under the new system as well.
*Tuition fee waiver for undergraduate students enrolling in and after the 2020 academic year will be granted only through the New System for Higher Education Scholarship. If you wish to apply for tuition fee waiver, please apply for the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarship for enrollment. However, if you were affected by the “Noto Peninsula Earthquake of 2024,” or by a past large-scale disaster such as the “Great East Japan Earthquake” or the “Heavy Rainfall in July, 2008,” or by wind or flood damage, or if your family finances have suddenly changed due to the effects of the new coronavirus, please contact the following “Contact for inquiries regarding entrance fee waiver and tuition fee waiver.
