Educational Philosophy and Objectives of Common Education
The purpose of common education is to help students acquire the attitude and ability to learn, think, and practice on their own in cooperation with specialized education, to prepare them for specialized studies and to cultivate rich creativity, humanity, and social awareness through the exploration of knowledge in various fields.
The common education curriculum is designed to cultivate “basic bachelor’s skills. The basic bachelor’s skills are the basic abilities that students should acquire in order to acquire the skills necessary to live as independent individuals (“bachelor’s skills”), as stated in Ehime University’s Charter, Ehime University Competencies, and the diploma policies of the faculties.
Bachelor Basic Skills
- Continuous learning based on one’s own personality and aptitude (Basic Attitude)
- Expression and communication skills for working with diverse people (basic communication skills)
- Skills necessary for learning activities and social life (basic skills)
- Broad basic knowledge necessary to cultivate multiple perspectives (Basic Knowledge)
- Thinking skills for finding and solving problems (basic thinking skills)
Common Education Curriculum
In order to cultivate the “basic bachelor’s skills,” the following four subject groups are offered in the common education program, each of which has its own distinctive approach.
First Year Courses
These courses are designed to help new students acquire the knowledge and abilities (life skills) to lead a healthy student life and acquire effective study skills at university. The courses offered are “Freshman Seminar A and B,” “Mental Health,” and “Sports.
Foundation Subjects
These courses are designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and fundamental skills that will support their overall academic studies at the university. It is also the foundation for specialized education in each department.
The following courses will be offered: “English,” “Mathematics,” “Ehime Studies,” “Introduction to Social Skills,” “Introduction to Information Literacy,” “Introduction to Japanese Literacy,” and “Introduction to Science and Technology Literacy.
general education course
This group of courses is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the basic perspectives and knowledge of each academic field, to cultivate versatile abilities through independent study, and to develop the rich humanity required of sensible members of society.
Subject Inquiry Courses, Discipline-specific Courses, Foreign Languages for Beginners, and Liberal Arts Courses for Seniors will be offered.
advanced course
This is a group of courses that aim to acquire qualifications unique to the University and are offered as university-wide minors.
Courses on Disaster Prevention Expert, SUIJI Servant Leader Training, Environmental ESD Leader Training, Ehime University Leaders’ School, English Language Professionals Courses related to training courses,” “Skill Development Courses,” and other subject categories.
