About the Credit System
According to the Standards for the Establishment of Universities, 15 hours of lectures and 30 hours of out-of-class study are required to earn one credit.
In other words, the following study hours are required to earn 2 credits.
Lecture Hours | Out-of-class study hours | Total |
---|---|---|
2 (hours) x 15 (weeks) = 30 hours | 4 (hours) x 15 (weeks) = 60 hours | 90 hours |
*Ehime University converts 15 lessons of 90 minutes into 2 credits.
Academic Grading
Academic performance is determined based on examinations and regular grades. Grades are graded on a 100-point scale, with credits awarded for courses in which 60 points or more are earned.
Ehime University’s standards for evaluating academic performance are as follows
Superior | From 90 to 100 points | The achievement objectives of the course have been achieved at an extremely high level. |
---|---|---|
Superior | 80 points or more but less than 90 points | The achievement objectives of the course are achieved at a high level. |
Good | 70 to 80 points | The achievement objectives of the course have been met at a standard level. |
acceptable | 60 points or more but less than 70 points | The course achieved the attainment objectives of the course at a minimum level. |

About the university-wide GPA
University-wide GPA (grade point average): Used for students’ self-management of their own learning process and achievement status, as well as for faculty to monitor students’ academic progress and provide detailed guidance and advice.
Calculation Method
The grade points of the registered courses are replaced by GP (grade point) as shown in the following table.
GP and grading points
GP | grades | Total |
---|---|---|
4 | Superior | 90 to 100 |
3 | Superior | 80-89 |
2 | Good | 70-79 |
1 | Allowable range. | 60 to 69 |
0 | Impossible | Less than 60 points |
0 | Not evaluated | Not meeting evaluation criteria such as lack of attendance |
The university-wide GPA is calculated using this GP with the following formula.
*All common education courses and specialized education courses are subject to GPA calculation. However, courses evaluated as “approved” or “passed” and courses for which registration is cancelled are not included in the GPA calculation formula.
In addition, each faculty has its own GPA for its own purposes.
