In accordance with the November 2008 revision of the Enforcement Regulations for the Teachers’ License Law, the “Practical Exercise for Teaching” (2 credits) was introduced as a “required subject” for obtaining a teaching license for students entering the 2010 academic year.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) requires that a “course record” be prepared for the “Practical Teaching Exercise. We call it a “portfolio.

In the Practical Teaching Exercise, students check the knowledge, skills, and practical leadership abilities they have learned and acquired through classes and hands-on educational activities outside of class based on their learning trajectory, and finally confirm that they have developed the qualities and abilities required of a teacher. The “Teaching and Learning Portfolio” must be created as a resource. The “Teaching Curriculum Learning Portfolio” is

2. what is “practical training for teaching”?

The Practical Exercise for Teaching (required) is designed to determine whether students have organically integrated and formed the minimum necessary abilities for teaching through the teaching courses and various activities outside the teaching course, and to determine the image and achievement goals of the teachers the university seeks to train (Diploma Policy for the Teaching Course). This course is offered in the second semester of the fourth year.

Please check the course requirements for taking the “Practical Teaching Seminar” in your own course guide (Course Guide and Study Guide).
The course also stipulates the number of courses and subjects to be completed by the end of the second year, the end of the third year, and the beginning of the second semester of the fourth year.

The credits for the Practical Training for Teaching will not be granted unless all teaching-related subjects required for obtaining a teaching license (“subjects related to basic understanding of education,” “subjects related to subjects and methods of teaching subjects,” and “subjects set independently by the university”) are completed.

3. what is “reflection day”?

Ehime University has established a teacher training curriculum that incorporates “learning from practice (practical knowledge)” with the aim of training teachers with strong practical skills. In order to utilize this curriculum and support systematic learning that links theory and practice, “Reflection Days” are held at the end of the second year, at the end of the third year, and at the beginning of the second semester of the fourth year.

In the “Reflection Day” held as part of teaching instruction, students reflect on the knowledge and skills they have learned in each class, activity, etc., using the “Teaching Curriculum Learning Portfolio” created by each student.

1. The “Learning Log” (Learning Record) is a record of the learning outcomes of teaching-related courses offered at the university. Please confirm the required courses and the number of credits for each course in your course guide.
2. The “Practice Log” (record of practical experience) is a record of learning outcomes from practical training, such as educational training, caregiving experiences, and regional cooperation training.
3. The “Reflection Log” is a record of learning outcomes and self-assessment during the Reflection Day.

The “Teaching Curriculum Learning Portfolio” will be used as evidence data of the abilities acquired up to that point in the “Practical Teaching Seminar” in the second semester of the fourth year.

The “Teaching Curriculum Learning Portfolio” is required for the “Reflection Day” and “Practical Teaching Seminar,” so be sure to create it as soon as your classes are over.

The “Teaching Curriculum Learning Portfolio” can be entered from the “Learning Portfolio” of the Study Support System.
The “Teaching Curriculum Learning Portfolio” will be explained in detail at the “Teaching Curriculum Guidance” session.
When preparing the “Teaching Curriculum Learning Portfolio,” please read the “Teaching Curriculum Learning Portfolio Input Guide and Corrections” distributed at the Teaching Curriculum Guidance and make sure that you do not make any mistakes.
