On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Ehime University renewed an inter-university agreement on academic exchange and a memorandum of understanding on student exchange with Xi’an Jiaotong University in China. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Ehime’s Friendship and Exchange Agreement with Shaanxi Province, a 23-member delegation led by Deputy Governor Noriyuki Suga visited Xi’an, Shaanxi Province from October 26 (Sunday) to 29 (Wednesday), 2025. Eight members (including four students) from Ehime University, including Director and Vice President Kazuhiro Mitsunobu (Director of Institute for International Relations) and Professor Jie Chen of the Institute for International Relations, participated in the delegation.
Xi’an Jiaotong University is one of the key science and technology universities under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of the State Council, along with Shanghai Jiaotong University, and is the highest-ranking university in western China in terms of both size and research standards. The exchange between Xi’an Jiaotong University and Ehime University began with the conclusion of a friendship agreement between the Shaanxi Provincial Government and Ehime Prefecture.
On October 28, an agreement signing ceremony between the two universities was held at the iHarbour Campus of Xi’an Jiaotong University. Prior to the agreement signing ceremony, Special Assistant to the President Duan Wenhua introduced Xi’an Jiaotong University’s human resource development, scientific research, international cooperation, and other initiatives. Four students from Xi’an Jiaotong University also attended the ceremony and interacted with Ehime University students. From Ehime University, Chancellor and Vice President Mitsunobu read President Hiroshige Nishina’s greeting on behalf of the university: “We would like to further strengthen our cooperation with Xi’an Jiaotong University and build a more fruitful cooperative relationship in the areas of education, research, and regional contributions.
Ehime University plans to continue student exchanges with Xi’an Jiaotong University. Ehime University also plans to develop various exchange activities with Xi’an Jiaotong University in cooperation with Ehime Prefecture.
