On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Ehime University concluded a memorandum of understanding with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) regarding the dispatch of overseas cooperation corps volunteers to Mozambique.
The MOU signing ceremony took place during the pre-session of the side event of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) held by the Japanese government in Yokohama from August 20 (Wed.) to 22 (Fri.), 2025. President Hiroshige Nishina, Special Assistant to the President for International Cooperation Osamu Kobayashi, and Associate Professor Hideyuki Kurita of Ehime University participated in the ceremony at JICA Yokohama, where President Nishina signed the MOU with JICA Shikoku Director Eriko Tamura.
With the conclusion of this MOU, Ehime University plans to send about three students and faculty members to Mozambique each year for five years starting in FY2026 to engage in activities that contribute to solving issues such as community development, vegetable cultivation, and agro-processing as Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers. This is expected to contribute to the sustainable development of Mozambique.
Ehime University concluded a memorandum of understanding with JICA in June 2023 regarding the dispatch of overseas cooperation corps volunteers to Ghana, and this is the second such agreement.
