? The Joint Seminar for UGAS-EU students was held in Ozu, September 4–6, 2019.
? The Joint Seminar, a required subject for UGAS-EU students, is a three-day residential seminar conducted in English. The seminar includes a lecture on getting a scientific paper published and group work to help students conduct research, as well as providing a place for international and Japanese students and faculty from different constituent?universities to cowork and interact.
?The first day of the seminar was a chance for the students to mingle and get to know each other. It started with an orientation, followed by students giving a short self-introduction in their assigned groups, and proceeded with group work supported by professors acting as group advisors. The day ended with a party.
?On the second day, Professor Dennis Murphy conducted a short workshop on scientific ethics and gave a lecture on getting a scientific paper published. After the workshop and lecture, the students enjoyed wall climbing or indoor activities, and then continued with their group work.
?The last day started with the group presentations, in which the students presented the results of the discussion of their specified topics. All the groups summed up their findings very well and gave enthusiastic presentations by the active collaboration with international and Japanese students.
?It was very useful for students.
?We would like to increase such opportunities.
